Only as good as the maintenance done on it! (like everything!)
I will just say that giving this a ONE rating is pretty unfair because most likely, the mower was hardly maintained, if at all, by the ones that claim the biggest issues with this mower. I have had mine for 6 years now and it still goes great, although mine has the Briggs 12.5 masterbuilt, opposed to the kohler, changing the oil every season and keeping engine and filters clean will prolong the life of the engine(any engine for that matter)greatly! Also, leaving mower outdoors will obviously cause premature failure of the mower, such as the deck and other controls.

Bottom line is for the money, this is a great, basic rider that if properly maintained, can last and last for indefinite summers!

My review
I have had this mower for about six years. I have kept it maintained each year. The only problem I had was keeping the tires inflated so I had tubes put in each one. This solved my problem. The only problem I have with it now is someone wanted it more than I did I guess as it was stolen out of my yard this past weekend.
Junk
I bought the previous version of this model three years ago. Now, the transmission won't go higher than 3rd, the parking brake won't set, the mower deck spindle bearings are shot, and the engine doesn't run.
Mine has a Kohler engine. At least they've fixed that - Kohler engines are trash.
The mower is manufactured by MTD. Their service department basically doesn't care about your problems. They also make Bolens. My advice is to avoid anything made by this company - they are cheap, throw-away junk.

The first question you have to ask yourself is, Do I really need a lawn tractor? For anything less than 3/4 of an acre, you'll probably want to buy a mower. For larger areas, however, a lawn tractor offers a comfortable, powerful alternative to pushing a mower back and forth all afternoon.

At 17.5 HP (502 cc), this model offers plenty of power-compare to the average of six or seven HP for gas-powered push mowers. The extra HP will come in especially handy if you're dealing with dense, wet grass. It will also make the job go a lot quicker, too. (Note that this model is a little higher in average in terms of HP for lawn tractors.) The twin-blade cutting deck measures 42 inches, which is fine for yards of up to three acres. If you're mowing larger spaces, you'll reduce your mowing time by upgrading to a larger deck and higher horsepower.

The 13AN772G700 is a pleasure to drive, too. Its six-speed transmission includes Yard Machines' "Shift-on-the-Go" transmission, giving you easy, no-clutch shifting using either a foot pedal or hand lever. This is a nice feature, as it allows you to easily slow down for tight spots or obstacles without having to hit a clutch, then ramp up again for the straightaways. The machine also has a nicely cushioned low-rise seat which, along with the 20-inch by 8-inch rear tires, make for a comfortable ride. The 18-inch turning radius is typical of most lawn tractors.

Overall, this is a great lawn tractor that's perfect for areas of from one to three acres. Two-year limited warranty. For safety, don't mow on inclines of more than 15 degrees, and always mow across a slope, not up it.--Josh Dettweiler

Great Buy! I got it at Amazon for about $300.00 under retail!
I got my Yardman mower last Spring on sale for a little over $1000.00 delivered and it has been delivering ever since! I'd recommend this unit to anyone who doesn't want to spend at least twice the amount at Lowes or Home Depot (Yuppy Pergatory!) for basically the same unit.
Anyway, it's a solid piece of equipment that gets the grass mowed with minimum upkeep so far! My advice? Buy and Enjoy!

Great Value
This mower is a great value. I have an acre of land that has dry, wet and tall grasses. I have had this mower for three years. It starts right up and always runs. I have replaced the battery a few times and it is pretty simple to replace both the blades and belts for anyone. You cannot beat the great price for a solid machine!
